What is medical device integration?

Medical devices are the backbone of clinical care. Whether a small clinic at a rural location or a large hospital, medical devices have allowed doctors to respond to patient conditions faster and take the necessary action. Growth in the sophistication of medical devices has directly led to improved diagnoses and better clinical outcomes for patients. But making them exchange data with EHR systems is a different ballgame. Medical device integration has become a major concern for clinicians and healthcare technologists.

Eases Medical Administrative Workflows

·       Without EHR integration with medical device integration software, the clinical staff would need to manually enter patients’ data. This would need to be entered into official records for later processing and physician examination. However, this process is slow, cumbersome, and prone to errors. This is especially true in the case of large hospitals with numerous patients and also in case of emergencies.

·       Errors in entering patients’ information into records manually have direct consequences. For example, small mistakes in entering a patient’s blood pressure or ECG readings could result in doctors prescribing the wrong type of medication. This will be detrimental to patient health.
